Program

Forecast Forum

Forecast is an international platform that promotes experimentation with pioneering ideas through mentorships in the fields of art, design, music, dance, architecture, curatorial practices, and beyond. At the Forecast Forum, 18 projects by this year’s participants will be presented to the public during an action-packed weekend at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. At the end of the Forum, the six mentors of this edition will each select one project to accompany to fruition over the next six months. The resulting works will be presented to the public at the HKW in October.

The shortlisted projects will be presented in thematic clusters. Visitors are welcome to join at any time. Admission is free.

Looking / Beyond Radio / Composition

Participants in these categories will stage performances and presentations across different sections of the HKW, taking the viewers on a journey through the building
.
Looking — Mentor: David Elliott
The act of looking, rather than simply seeing, implies an actively inquisitive approach. Through art and artistic practices, the three break through contemporary life’s rigidities.
With presentations by Anna Ridler (UK); Sarah Naqvi (IN); Abhijan Toto (IN)

Beyond Radio — Mentor: Peter Meanwell
Participants delve into what radio can be in the digital age: an infrastructure, an artistic medium, and a performance space with the power to connect audiences and across space and time.
With presentations by Julia E Dyck (CA); RADIOEE.NET (US, AR); Emiddio Vasquez (CY)

Composition — Mentor: Holly Herndon
While the three candidates come from different parts of the world, they share a common approach that expands the idea of composition to encompass sound and other aspects of time-based work.
With presentations by HIBOTEP (ET); Jessika Khazrik and The Society of False Witnesses (LB); MIIIN (KR)

Saturday, May 12 from 4pm

Living Matter / Invasive Design / Moving Image

Living Matter — Mentor: Laura Lima
For the three selected artists, everything is matter—whether immaterial phenomena such as the global stock market or traditional African family structures. Their challenge lies in translating living matter into a communicable artistic process.
With presentations by Arthur Ban (BI); Saverio Cantoni (IT); Vanessa Brazeau (CA)
.
Invasive Design —
Mentor: Tulga Beyerle
This category’s projects explore inventive designs that could permeate the museum, an essentially static institution, to reflect the twenty-first century’s complexities and societal changes.
With presentations by Corina Angheloiu (RO); Commonplace Studio (CA, NL); Anais Borie, Aram Lee and Ottonie von Roeder (FR, KR, DE)
.
Moving Image — Mentor: Omer Fast
Each of the proposals subverts the inherent potential of time-based media to construct narratives, and uses this potentiality to open windows into parallel worlds operating on their own logic.
With presentations by Eliane Esther Bots (NL); María Molina Peiró (ES); Omar A. Chowdhury (AU)
